Water vapour fireplaces use LED-lit mist to imitate flames with no real heat, so they suit homes with children and pets.

A bioethanol fireplace has a burner that holds liquid bioethanol fuel. When lit, the fuel burns to give a real flame, producing water vapour and a small amount of carbon dioxide. Burn time depends on the burner's tank size and flame setting, and a full tank commonly lasts several hours. Planika recommends its own Fanola bioethanol fuel, which is made for Planika burners. Using non-approved fuel can affect performance and may affect your warranty.

Yes, but only models designed for outdoor use. Planika makes outdoor ethanol and gas fireplaces, fire tables and pits, and patio heaters for gardens and terraces. Indoor fireplaces must not be used outside, so check the product specification before you buy.

Yes. Many Planika burners can be fitted into a wall recess, a fire surround or an existing fireplace opening, as long as the surround is non-combustible and the burner clearances in the installation manual are followed. Freestanding, wall-mounted and tabletop models are also available.

No chimney, flue or gas connection is needed, so most bioethanol fireplaces do not need planning permission, and freestanding units normally fall outside Building Regulations. For a fixed or built-in installation, a listed building or a leasehold property, check with your local authority or building control first.
